Buy A New Kayak Or Used?

If you are a kayaking sport enthusiast, you have probably thought about getting your own kayak. When the kayaking bug bites, buying a kayak will seem like a good idea. Whether you want to get your kayak online or from closer to home buying a used one pretty much depends on you.

A used kayak would be more friendly to your pockets, as long as nothing goes wrong with it. With some new kayaks costing about $400 to $1300, you will have to dig deeper into your pockets if you want to grab one of these. A used kayak can go for as low as $200 to about $600. The price difference is obvious. So, if you are short on cash, you are better off buying a used kayak. However, used stuff does not go well with some people. If you can afford to buy it new one by all means grab yourself a new one.

You may also need that new kayak if you are keen on having a quality product. No one will sell you a good kayak at a really low price. There is usually something wrong with most used products. Either it is old and worn out or it has a serious flaw and the owner is try to get rid of it by selling it. Get a new kayak if you do not want to worry about this. However, this is not to say that all used kayaks are of poor quality. If you are sure of the quality of a used kayak, do buy it.  Used kayaks do not come with a warranty, so it's buyer beware.  You are covered usually for 3 years when you buy new.

Buying a used kayak is also a good idea considering that the sport is seasonal. If you live in a place that experiences winter, there is no way you are going to go kayaking when the water's frozen. Buy a used kayak in such circumstances as you will not be using the kayak most times of the year. However, if you are a die hard fan of this sport or you kayak professionally, it would be a good idea to get a new kayak. Buy a new kayak if you live in a climate where you can kayak throughout the year.

As mentioned already, those involved in competitive kayak sport need to have a new kayak. Your tools play an important role when it comes to performance. You will need the best tools available for your training and competition when it comes to the sport. However, you may just be into kayaking as a hobby. You may also have started kayaking for fun. Buying a used kayak in such circumstances would not be a bad idea. A used kayak would serve you just as well as a new one. You can also opt to buy a cheaper more basic new kayak, if that's what makes sense.

Hence, the choice of whether to buy a new or used kayak will depend on different considerations as we a have discussed above. Whether you opt you buy a new or used kayak will therefore be a personal decision. Whatever you choose to do, keep enjoying the beautiful sport of kayaking.
